Simplistic correlations between molecular electronic properties and inhibition efficiencies: Do they really exist?

چکیده

• Simplistic correlations between molecular parameters and corrosion inhibition efficiencies critically evaluated. 24 heterocyclic organic compounds tested as inhibitors for Cu in 3 wt.% NaCl aqueous solution. None among usually considered correlates with efficiency. Pros cons of the efficiency (IE) metric discussed: IE suffers from nonlinearity. Inhibition power proposed a new evaluating performance inhibitors. The often used simplistic electronic experimentally determined are evaluated set compounds, copper Twelve different descriptors—such ionization potential, electron affinity, HOMO–LUMO gap, dipole moment—are it is shown that none them displays any noticeable correlation Our results, therefore, cast serious doubt on reported such efficiency, obtained only few inhibitors, which abundant literature. We also discuss some pros introduce termed uses universal logarithmic scale dimensionless decibel (dB) units.

Specific PKG inhibitors: do they really exist?

Background Cellular cGMP effects can be mediated by a number of effectors including cGMP-dependent protein kinases (PKGs), cGMP-stimulated phosphodiesterase (PDE2), cGMP-inhibited phosphodiesterase (PDE3), and cGMPgated channels. Pharmacological inhibitors of PKG are often used to discriminate between these diverse cGMP effects. Currently used PKG inhibitors can be divided into three classes: c...

Do diseases really exist?

Is there such a thing as a disease? For most doctors, the question may seem absurd, and barely worth a moment’s thought. Yet the question is a legitimate one, and is taken seriously by a range of people from biologists to philosophers. There are many reasons why. For example, as any doctor will recognise, the definitions of many diseases are quite arbitrary. They vary from one place to another,...

Do Transitive Adjectives Really Exist?

I argue that the so-called psychological predicates like komapta 'thankful,' mwusepta 'fearful,' silhta `loathsome,' or kulipta 'missing' require a nominative subject and a locative or dative complement, challenging the claim, a conventional wisdom originated from Kuno(1973), that they are two-place "transitive adjectives" requiring a nominative direct object. I also show that those adjectives ...

They really do go.

While it is technically correct that 70-80% of rural or underserved origin candidates do not go ‘outside’ current concentrations of physicians and health resources, the appropriate statistical analysis reveals that they really do go at rates 2, 4, 6, or 10 times higher than the typical medical students. Others also go, such as the 75% of rural physicians who have urban origins or those with top...

International differences in treatment effect: do they really exist and why?

With the increasing globalization of clinical trials, the opportunity exists to explore potential geographic differences in treatment effect within any major trial. Such geographic differences may arise because of international differences in patient selection, medical practice, or evaluation of outcomes, and such international variations need better documentation in trial reports. Appropriate ...
